Exciting Changes Breathe Life into Our Boutique

Imagine not being able to provide fresh, nutritious food for your child when your grocery bridge card runs out before month’s end.  Or a child who has been removed from their home with just a small garbage bag of personal items and not enough clothes for the school week. For many Detroit families, it’s a real challenge. We see families like this every day. That’s why, in 2003, we established The Children’s Center Boutique.

Proving the Basic Necessities

The Children’s Center Boutique is a gently used clothing shop and food pantry available to any family receiving our mental health services. The boutique offers a place for families to shop free-of-charge for basic emergency needs. Each month, an average of 200 families receive a referral from a clinician to shop for clothes and food.

Creating A Fresh New Look

Our boutique offers an inspiring experience for our clients. Recently our staff, volunteers, children, and parents picked up paintbrushes to help us transform it into an even more welcoming space. Now, as guests enter the boutique, they’re swept away by a whimsical forest filled with fairies, gnomes, and woodland creatures. Inside, guests are welcomed by a variety of colorful clothing options and nutritious food choices.

How Can I Help?

Good question. The most frequent request we receive is for food items. You can help support the boutique by donating non-perishable food items, child and adult clothing or shoes, and hygiene products.

We accept donations in Building 90 every Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
