The Children’s Center is one of Michigan’s most trusted providers of mental and behavioral health, child welfare services, and family support programs. Every family deserves access to care that understands their story. The children we serve are navigating experiences that no child should face alone. We meet them with acceptance, compassion, and proven approaches that build resilience and restore hope.
As a community mental health provider, we are committed to ensuring every child has access to the care they need, regardless of the financial hardships their family may face. The majority of the children and families we serve are from low-income households, with more than 75% relying on Medicaid to access essential mental health services. We help ensure that cost is never a barrier to care and that healing is never out of reach.

Our Story
Founded in 1929, by Senator James Couzens, as one of Detroit’s first child guidance clinics, The Children’s Center has grown into a comprehensive hub for behavioral health, child welfare, and family support. Our legacy is shaped by generations of children and families who found strength, courage, and possibility within our doors.
While much has changed, our commitment remains the same. We exist to help children and families shape their own future.
